Joseph E. Zeigler Sr.
Joseph E. Zeigler Sr., 76, of Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania, passed away at the Lehigh Valley Hospital on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008, surrounded by his family.
Born in Beaver Meadows on April 26th, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Lengen) Zeigler.
He lived in the Beaver Meadows and Weatherly areas all of his life.
Joseph was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Beaver Meadows.
Before retiring, Joe was employed at several local plants as a maintenance mechanic.
He was a 1950 graduate of Hazleton High School.
During the Korean War, he served as a squad leader with the 40th Infantry Division. Joe was awarded the Good Conduct medal, United National National Defense medal, Korean Service medal with Bronze Satrs, and the R.O.K. Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of Beaver Meadows VFW Post 8225 and served as Vice Commander. Joe was also a member of American Legion Post 383 in Beaver Meadows.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Helen Yurovchak.
Joseph is survived by his daughter Lori with whom he resided; son Joseph Jr. and his wife Melanie; daughter Karen and her husband Jeff Sernak, all of Weatherly; sister Leona and her husband Paul Marusak of Beaver Meadows, PA; and grandchildren Ashlee and Brandon Zeigler and Dillon and Katlyn Sernak. 3 nephews, 1 niece, and Joe's dog Fred also survive.
Services will be from the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First Street, Weatherly, PA on Saturday, May 10th, 2008 at 9:00 AM. Rev. Floyd Caesar will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Beaver Meadows on Saturday at 10:00 AM.
Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
