Elizabeth Logar

Elizabeth Logar, 95, of Weatherly, died at Weatherwood in Weatherly, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008.

Born in Hazleton on February 12th, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Yurkanin.

Elizabeth was a member of Holy Trinity Slovak Church in Hazleton.

Before retiring, she worked as a sewing machine operator at L & M Sportswear in Sheppton.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Logar in 1961; brothers Michael, John, and Peter Yurkanin; and sisters Anna Kapes and Mary Battagliotti.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Marie Krieger of Weatherly, PA, and 3 grandchildren, 8 great-children, and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Leonard Butcavage will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Slovak Church on Friday, January 25th, 2008, at 9:30 AM.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Slovak Church parish cemetery.

Doris (Sauers) Pahula

Doris Pahula, 83, of Weatherly, Pennsylvania, went peacefully with the Lord on January 3rd, 2008 while her family stood by her side.

Doris was born in Rockport to the late Adam "Luther" and Edna (Adams) Sauers.

She graduated from Weatherly High School in 1942.

Doris worked at the Weatherly Foundry during World War II. She then found her true calling and pursued a lifelong career in nursing.

Doris shared a love of traveling with her late husband, George Pahula.

During her later years, she was lovingly cared for by her family.

Survivors: Doris's spirit and independence will never be forgotten by her daughter, Sandra, wife of Ronald Ritter, of Walnutport; son, James Ackerman, and his wife Pat, of Bethlehem; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Lincoln Sauers, and her first husband, Herman Ackerman.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 9th, 2008, from the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First Street, Weatherly, PA, 18255.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

John G. Halechko

John G. Halechko, 88, formerly of Weatherly, Pennsylvania, died at St. Luke Manor in Hazleton on Thursday, January 3rd, 2008.

Born in Hazlebrook on October 28th, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Mary (nee Zoltak) Halechko.

John was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Weatherly.

A World War II veteran who served with the Army Infantry in the Philippines, he received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in action.

John worked as a machinist at the Weatherly Foundry for 40 years and he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Molders and Allied Workers.

He was a member of the former VFW Post in Weatherly and American Legion Post 360, Weatherly.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gloria (nee Dellen) Halechko in 1981; brothers George, Andy, William "Shorty", and Joseph Halechko; and sisters Mary Zokovitch, Mildred Kovatch, and Anna Zidock.

John is survived by his son John Halechko and daughter Joyce Fadden, both of Weatherly and grandchildren John Halechko, Kim Lawrence, and Tom Fadden. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Rev. Floyd Caesar will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, 318 Plane Street, Weatherly, PA, on Saturday, January 5th, at 2:00 PM.

Interment will be in St. Nicholas R.C. Church parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the Mass.

George Wedge

George Wedge, 94, of Weatherly, Pennsylvania, died at the Hazleton General Hospital on Monday, December 31st, 2007.

Born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on April 25th, 1913, he was the son of the late Phillip and Mary (nee Matterazzo) Wedgie.

George was a member of the Catholic faith.

A carpenter, George worked many years for contractors in the Chester county area.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an Army Sargeant in the Philippines.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mildred (nee Billig) Wedge in 1989; brothers Michael and Anthony Wedgie; and sisters Madeline Fuski, Carmella Moyer, and Florence Wedgie.

George is survived by a sister Irene Pisak of West Hazleton, PA and niece Dorothy Hinkle of Weatherly, PA. Many other nieces and nephews also survive.

Services will be from the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First Street, Weatherly, PA, on Saturday, January 5th, 2008, at 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Weatherly at 10:00 AM. Rev. Floyd Caesar will officiate.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Pennsylvania.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 4th, 2008, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Christian Wake Service will be held during the visitation.
