Edward N. "Rebel" Hacker

Edward N. "Rebel" Hacker, 67, of Weatherly, died at his home on Monday, November 19th, 2007.

Born in Richwood, West Virginia, on May 28th, 1940, he was the son of the late Cecil and Emmlea (nee Singleton) Hacker.

He graduated from Richwood, West Virginia High in 1958 and was a member of the former Carbon County Civil Defense and A.R.E.A. Team of Weatherly.

Before retiring, Edward worked at Wal-Mart in Hazleton. He also worked at Montone Trailers and Highway Trailers of Hazleton and Mack Truck in Macungie.

Edward is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jean Anne (nee Smith) Hacker; son Dwayne Hacker and his wife Connie of Tamaqua; sister Coleen Motsko of Catasaqua; brothers Wayne and Kenneth Hacker of Richwood, West Virginia; and two grandsons, Kyle Robert and Shane Edward Hacker. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Services will be at the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First Street, Weatherly, PA, on Wednesday, November 28th, 2007, at 8:00 PM.

Friends may call from 6:00 PM until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Edward's final resting place will be in West Virginia and will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mary Ann Thompson

Mary Ann Thompson, 63, of Hazleton, died at the Hazleton General Hospital on Sunday, November 11th, 2007.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 6th, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ethel Mary (nee Garner) Bazemore.

Mary Ann was the wife of the late John Jacob Thompson.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael J.R. "My Boy" Mertens.

Mary Ann is survived by a son Gabriel Mertens of Hazleton; daughters Donna Cerelli of Oregon, Marianne Mertens and her husband Gary Harley of McAdoo, Charlotte Alberswerth and her husband David of Weatherly, and Bonnie Jean Williams of Hazleton; and a sister Christine Bazemore of Hazleton.

Also surviving are her precious grandchildren: David Alberswerth Jr., Robert, Nicholas and Jessica Alberswerth, Brian Cerelli, Savannah, Marianne, Jhanelle and Amanda Harley, Justin, Sarah, Kathleen and Joshua Williams.  Also, Mary Ann's soon-to-be first great-granddaughter, Karlie Patrone, and cousins William and Michael Garner.

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 15th, 2007, at the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First Street, Weatherly, Pennsylvania. Rev. Walter Breiner, pastor of Zions Evangelical Lutheran Church in Weatherly, will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Weatherly.

Agnes G. Yemola

Agnes Grace Yemola, 84, of West Hazleton, died peacefully on Friday evening, November 9th, 2007, at the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Harwood, Pennsylvania on February 15th, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Susan (nee Sivar) Volk.

Agnes was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church in West Hazleton. She was devoted to the Rosary and enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her daughter, sisters, and other family members. Her presence and smile along with her homemade pies made every holiday or family event complete. Her spirit and love will be cherished and remembered forever.

A homemaker most of her life, she was employed as an expert collar-maker at local garment factories during her younger years.

She was married for 56 years to Leo A. "Spike" Yemola until his death in March, 2005.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leo; an infant son Robert; brother Joseph Wolk; and sister Theresa Kisacky.

Agnes is survived by her daughter Mary Beth Yemola of Swoyersville, PA; sisters Mary Pierce of St. Augustine, FL, Margaret Heiser and Rita DePretis, both of Hazleton, and Beatrice (Mrs. Robert) Shenyo of Eagle Rock; and a brother Francis (Frank) Volk of Fort Pierce, FL. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 14th, 2007, at 9:30 AM at Transfiguration R.C. Church in West Hazleton.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Drums.

Friends may call at the Hilary J. Bonin Funeral Home, 99 West Green Street, West Hazleton, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, November 13th, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening.

Carmela L. DeLuca

Carmela L. DeLuca, 86, of Weatherly, died at her home on Tuesday evening.

Born in Hazleton on October 16th, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Salvador and Barbara (nee Kocis) Lasco.

Carmela was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Weatherly.

Before retiring, she was a teacher and Reading Therapist in Philadelphia area schools.

A talented artist, Carmela specialized in etching and she was active in the Hazleton and Carbon County Art Leagues. She restored the angels above the altar at St. Nicholas Church and assisted with the interior design during a past remodeling project.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Leonard, a sister Lucy, and her foster parents Tony and Lucy Forte.

Carmela is survived by her husband of 33 years, Domenic DeLuca; step-sister Frances Jurewicz of Sugarload; and niece Candace Lasco of Indianapolis, IN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic on Thursday at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Floyd Caesar will officiate.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday.
